Here are a few helpful hints and tips for accessorizing this season.
Current Fashion Trends emBOLDen your wardrobe! 2016 will not be boring. Let your novelty pieces bring life to your wardrobe.
Simple black and white! Black and white geometrics and pattern are sweeping 2016. Pair a pattern with a solid for a more classic look, or mix up the patterns to show your fashionista flair.
Skirts are still in swing! Remember midi-skirts (hit mid-calf and are usually a fuller skirt) and skater skirts (high-waisted circle or A-frame skirt with a hemline above the knee) are incredibly versatile. Wear with a t-shirt and sneakers, a crisp cotton button-up over tank and wedge heels, or a slouchy sweater and boots.
There are plenty of shirt dresses in store for 2016. From starched and button up to casual jersey style, you will not have a problem finding options. Keep in mind, however, that these can tend to be designed a bit short. Don't let the trend dictate too much for you, and keep your length and fabric choices age-appropriate and lifestyle-appropriate.
Bring on the bling! While wearing bling on clothes and as jewelry is not a new concept, it's being added to shoes in all sorts of new ways. This year, go for the gold and experiment with shiny shoes.
What about the wrap! The wrap, kimono, poncho look is still running wild. The t-shirt dress has even branched into a wrap (see left). Check 'em all out - silky sheers, patterns, textures, long dusters and shorter crops. You might just be wow'd by one.
CHECK IT OUT . . . Still in: Knee-high boots, oversized scarves, layers, lace and statement jewelry pieces (including VERY large earrings).
New: Various styles of head-wear including headbands of all types of materials and styles. Contrast stitching, ropes and fringe, hardware and other embellishments on handbags.
Don't knock it til you try it: Cold shoulder tops and ruffles.
Don't rule it out: I know, I know - pleats are out, right? Not entirely. Properly placed pleats can be very pleasing (try to say that 3 times fast).
